Pellet gun hunting ?

Does anyone go plinking or pest hunting ? If so what type of pellet gun do you use or prefer.
Sorry i put this in the wrong topic and just realized it after i posted it .

I do pest control but I use a 22lr. Not a pellet I think it is more humane I use it for rabbits and crows. Tell me how it goes!

i use a 1200fps benjamin titian 18 pounds of muzzle force it only takes 5 for a rabbit i also do plinking its a rather fun way to get rid of stress .

Bird- I certainly hope you don't mean it takes you 5(five) shots on a rabbit to put it down.
That there is considered inhumane.
I reckon you clearly need alot more practice on your shot placement.

He means 5 pumps to air it up....I don't know about the new Benjamin's, but the old ones only took 8 pumps to reach maximum velocity.

At least I think he does....at any rate....he's not talking about 5 shots....I hope...

Edit: I quick Google shows that it's a break barrel rifle and not a pump up gun....so it can't be pumps...He must mean something else....but with 1200 fps....anything but a very poorly placed shot with kill a rabbit, even with the measly .177 cal.

Actually....I thought that was what you meant Cameron....just waited for you to say it....

The question is....although I don't dispute the fact that 5lbs. of muzzle "force" will take out a rabbit with a well placed shot....

Where are you getting this information ????

So....I'm kinda on your side here and against it.....for the following reasons:

#1: The standard parameters for ballistic specifics are FPS and 'energy' which
...if you had paid attention in school....you would know is mass+velocity....(As I recall Math was your best subject....)

Now....again....I believe you are correct in your assessment of what it takes to exterminate a rabbit....most old school air rifles were between 450 and 650 fps and they were capable of killing a rabbit.....HOWEVER....a .177 @ 450....pretty much had to be stuck in their ear....whereas a .22 cal @ 650 fps was almost as deadly as a .22 rifle
...the only difference being the distance at which it was lethal....

I'm not a big fan of these new "pellet guns ".....because...they have to much range and power.....therefore, the possibility of more property damage and possible personal injury.....

They are almost as as powerful as a .22 short.....(penetration wise....probably stronger in .177 form....)

So....to me...potentially as dangerous as a full blown firearm.....and perhaps more so, because they can and are discharged in urbam areas....where the report of a common firearm would limit their use....

I actually use a .22 rifle to plink and dispatch critters in my urban backyard.....

BUT.... I use Aquilla Super Colibri ammunition...which is probably around 500 fps at best....(It's basically a pellet gun bullet in a .22 long rifle case....without powder.....) yes.....the primer propells the bullet! !!! Very quiet.....

I also have a couple of pellet guns....(old school pump up)....but...again....I think that those 1000+ fps pellet guns are just a bit too powerful for urban use.

That's just my two cents....

Nothing goes to waste The cats that my neighbor has wandering around her house get fed a very good meal so to speech .Yes you are right but that also comes down to what type of pellet i am using and that pellet i use is the destroyer Ex and the hallow point they have been shown in ballistics jell to do less penetration but more of a crater was left .The old school air guns i found out cant hit the broad side of a barn from my father he also told me when he got upset at his brother he chased him around with it and shot him a few times then again my fathers brother was throwing rocks

I beg to differ....and call BS big time.....cats are neither well equipped...nor predisposed to eat rabbits.....

You are wasting a game animal illegally...against a pretty much universal ethic amongst REAL sportsmen.....which says you do not kill and wantonly waste.....

Your logic is total BS....every animal killed is consumed by something eventually....eventually bacteria...and right before...earthworms.....so...(doesn't go to waste is total BS!!!)

Might as well shoot the cats....SOMETHING. will eat them eventually....

I have a nitro piston Walther Talon Magnum that I don't really use anymore.
My .22s are much more accurate (or more specifically, less sensitive to hold) and put out a similar noise and power with the right ammo.

A while back I had looked into getting a Benjamin Discovery (I think) in 22cal.
Id like a higher end pcp 22cal.

But for now, I have a few daisy pellet rifles I got cheap at flea markets. Good for plinking.
I had a springer type a few years ago. That was fun.

The cat thing is a bit insane.. I've never seen a cat eat a rabbit before. EVER. I've seen one KILL a squirrel and play with its dead body for awhile and give up.. but also never eaten one..

instead of arguing against poboys ethics of pellet rifles in neighborhoods. [because I can just as easily knock out a window at 100 yards with a baseball as I can with a pellet rifle...]

The pcp air rifles are very accurate but man are they $$$ i was looking at the benjamin marauder but its 350$
