I have been taking my racing kart in the dirt and beating the :ack2: out of the bottom of the seat etc. I have 10" tires and want to move to 15" to get more ground clearance and also want to run low tire pressure to soften the ride in the grass and dirt with the solid frame. I'm looking at 15 x 6.00-6 Super-Turf Tire's and 6" racing wheels. My question is which width would you guys recommend (5", 5.5" or 6") for a low pressure application and would running ~10bs of pressure even soften the ride or will it still be hard as ****?

You could run any of those three rim widths. What I would personally do though is run the 5" ones. The reason I would do that is to keep the sidewalls in a position to better support the tire in a low pressure situation. Jmo though, and honestly they all would run fairly fine.

Depending on the age of your chassis... you may have to remove the nerf bars so the bigger tires will fit... just something to check, it may clear just fine...

I have been wondering if this is ok to do ? Can you mount turf style tires on like douglas aluminum wheels ? would be a fun option just to play in the dirt

I use tires somewhat like those tires on my lakebed racer, they work very well in the dirt and I have spun the type that I use over 60 mph.

I would go with the 6" rims. The wider rim seems to make the tire a little shorter, and a little wider. JMO :)

Here are the 15x6x6 on 6x5.5" wheels on the racing kart. It sits pretty high and has changed the gear ratio but its not dragging its a** now. (last photo = aftermath... seems the motor ate itself)

You REALLY should think about taking a chunk of rubber hose and sliding it over your electrical cables as a sleeve. Your positive cable is laying on the frame and next to a hex bolt that can easily arc out.

NICE :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I've been scouring the web looking for pics of a race kart with tall tires for this very purpose. I am thinking about doing something like this.

What is the ground clearance?

How are you liking those turf tires? They holding up pretty good?

Might consider this for my red kart.
Iv picked out an honda atc200 engine to fit on it.
Ill just have 2 sets of wheels, one with slicks, the other with off roads

Something is jumping out at me....that has barely been touched on.

Larger circumference tires are going to change your gearing "balance "....if your gearing is close to the edge now....you won't be happy with the results!

Give us some info: tooth sprocket counts and approximate kart driver weight....

Don't know how it applies to the OP since he's running green, but it looks to be doing pretty good in his video.

The American Express kart we have has 145/70-6 rear tires with 12/72 factory gearing (6:1) and the sprocket has decent clearance. I've ordered an 80t to try out to slow my boys down a little.
