This drawing pretty much explains it. Daring you to use a pocket knife to TRY to scratch it? Now thats tuff stuff along with a bold statement from POR15.

go to page 10-11 in this link. There is pics of smashed pipe with por15. Also pounding and bending.

POR15 Cat. http://www.por15.com/catalog.asp

Also page 14 and 15 for the hardnose paint.

I am going to be making a video trying to destroy por15 finishes. I will show how you can beat a bar flate and still have a nice finish with no chipping or peeling. I will show how you can paint a beer can and smash it flate with no peeling. Also destructive dead blows from pipe wrenches to ice picks. Also chemical testing to prove it's absolutely impervious to solvents of any kind. Gas and brake fluid testing. Pellet gun destruction and much more. See if I can destroy the finish with the jaws if my bench vice? I will clamp a bar into my vice as tight as I can. I will then beat the pipe out of the vise with a hammer. I bet the por15 will be fine? We will see. Should be fun anyway! Tired of talking about it. Time to make some vids.

Here is some othe por15 vids if your bored.

I will be very interested to see the results of your destructive testing. How much can the substrate really deflect before the finish is compromised? I'll be watching.

My brother and I painted the frame, axles, suspension, and other random stuff underneath his truck with a POR15 starter kit, Its very strong! Holds up to all the scrapes when we go 4 wheeling!

The 4x4 world is where POR15 really shines. I have heard that the rock crawlers love it for it takes lot's of abuse. Also really easy to clean when dirty from mudding.

Got a love a finish that can handle scraping on rocks while 4x4ing.

Well, car show was in town this past weekend......so I bought the complete POR 15 system with 1 qt POR 15, 1 qt self etching primer, marine clean, and metal cleaner, 2 spray bottles. I am going to use either rattle can paint or an automotive urethane on the kart I am building, hence the need for the self etching primer. We will see how it goes. I know a qt may be an overkill in size, but the POR rep said to pour the amount I needed out of the qt into a small container, then seal the unused portion with saran type wrap under the can lid. Then he said to store it in the fridge!!! I'll see how that goes!!!

Many people do not even open the can. They drill two small holes in the lid. They dump out what they need then seal the can with a sheet metal screw with an O-ring. This method does not let any air into the can. Plus you do not have to worry about welding the can shut if you get ANY on the lip of the can. Just goes to show you how strong this paint is. It can and will weld the lid shut. You will destroy the can before the lid will break lose.

If you go with what the rep told you the only thing I would do different was store the can upside down in the fridge. This way when you go to use it next time you will not have to drill thru the skin on the top layer of the paint. Upside down the skin is then on the bottom of the can when you go to open it.

NEVER PAINT FROM THE CAN. As soon as the brush hit's the can it starts to cure. POR15 will also tell you that if you even drop one drop of sweat into the can. The can is then no good. POR15 dries and cures faster on wet rainy days.

You can do a complete 4x4 chassis with both axles. Floor boards inside and out and still have a some left in your quart. Oh yah thats two coats and still have some left. Por15 is really thin and goes along way. I was surprised how thin it was. You would think it would be thick for what it does. I tell people to buy the 6 pack kit. You get 6 pints in the kit. this way you can use what you need and toss. Also the $20 starter kit will paint a go kart easy. It comes with a 1/2 pint can and the spray bottles.

At the show did the por15 reps have any parts on display? Any destructive test to show how tuff it is? The reps I seen had a hammer on the table. You were free to beat away if you wanted to.

He had a pallet of the chassis colors, por15 colors on display. He let us try to scratch them with a screwdriver....no go!!! Thats what sold me plus all the good reviews on this forum. I know a qt was an overkill, but I have other projects to paint as well. The first project will be my homemade tubing bender, then the kart, then a 5x10 trailer!! Should be able to use it all up.
