Our entry in DIYGK buildoff

Well, here we go. I'm going to be building with Evan, he is also a member of DIYGK he lives just down the street and is always here so will be included in the build.
We have no idea what we're going to do yet, but as you can see we do have a good supply of hardware to grab from. I did start the frame last month but it's going to get chopped up againe so I hope that it fits the program.

Yes it is, I always grind it with a flpper wheel before welding, and have a fan at my back as I weld it.

haha wow. we have some similarities going on here.

We both have:

the same mexican blanket
the same hobart welder
welder kart made from creeper

and in our build parts
ATV parts
kiddie bikes
child seat



and you seem to have the same problem of not being able to throw out CRT monitors i figured out that the scrapyard takes them as scrap. just make sure you bury them in the bottom of a car...


looks like you have a lot more parts handy! im sorta jealous.

say i dont see any gas bottles... you hiding your shielding gas or using flux cored wire? im beginning to dislike the hobart... good for simple quick repairs but hard to keep a good consistant weld. one minute, pretty bead, next, swiss cheese...

We currently run .030 flux core wire through it.

Yes but a grinder takes care of most of it.

Day 2

Day 5, Didn't do much yesterday made a couple spacers for the TC. Today Mounted the rear axle and did some mental building of the engine mount.

OK, so far we have a frame made from an old hand truck, some galvanized fence pipe, and a piece of tube cut off a shipping continer door. Used the copeing calculator to cut the fish mouths.

Evan, scrounged up the yellow kart frame in our parts photos The rear axle and hangers were taken from that. He's great at finding stuff.

We are useing the engine from my first scrap metal build, a HF blue, and a TC that was looking for a home.

Today I'm going to look at the steering on the on the quad, see if we can adapt and reuse.

It is the entire steering colume from the quad, with the top of the frame, just laid back at an angle

Evan started on the front end today, he's cutting off the parts we'll need from the scrap pile. We are going to try something a little differant, so I'll do photos of that a little later into the fab.

I started on the axle sprocket and disk brake. We didn't have the #41 sprocket that fit our drive hub, so I did some drilling and cutting to make it work, did the same for the disk and hub.

That is a pretty dang creative way to use a swingarm- nice!
