Well I have a 725cc kohler 25hp that I'm waiting on parts for so I thought I might get some opinions on what kind of chassis to use it on. Right now the only ones that appeal to me are a drag kart and racing kart to drift on.

So I'll let you guys choose

I had to think about it too but with a drift car they always tried to get as close to a 50/50 weight distribution as they could like I was doing on my z32 opposed to drag cars that try to get as much weight as they can on the rear driven wheels as they.

Is that drag kart option an extra long Junior Dragster type like Tyler's? If so it doesn't seem like its long wheelbase would be as responsive for a kart built to mainly be a drifter. I don't know, Are drifter karts usually extra long like this?

On the other hand that Kohler is probably way too large in physical size to hang off the side mounting position of a modern type race chassis. As far as weight goes I had an engine approaching 100 lbs. on the side of my race chassis, I weigh 230lbs and with my seat moved left-word (for clearance/balance reasons) my kart with 40mm/triple axle bearings did just fine with all that weight.

For a drifter, I'm thinking another option you should consider would be an older 70's style (rear engine) race chassis. Its rear frame section would already be designed/braced for a rear motor mount, that could then be fairly easily enlarged and centered to place all your engines weight dead center for more predictable R/L drifting compared to a side mount kart. Those older rear engine race chassis can also sometimes be bought much cheaper. Many of those older race chassis were mighty fine karts as long as you weren't too dang tall like me... :D

tyler's jr. dragster is about 16ft long i was thinking more along the lines of 10-12ft and your right i would only be able to go in a striahgt line.

and i wasnt thinking about using a side mount chassis it'd like trying to sit me and my 32inch tv side by side on a go kart :roflol:.

and i might have an idea of the chassis design for it i stumble upon something on google earlier i'll see if i can find it

Any kart can drift, you just need enough power. I don't think a 25hp low-revving engine with no gears is suited for drifting.

You know you could probably get some $$$ for that Kohler and buy a bike engine.....

I voted drag with that motor.
Your going to want a higher revving motor, and a more 50/50 weight distribution if you want to go drifting.. at least that's what you want in a car.
