Opinion and/or Engine suggestions

The kart I'm redoing came with a Tecumseh 8hp, 3/4" crank. It needs major help, repairable but is it worth it. What is yours thoughts of the best engine to replace it with ? I want to use the 3/4" clutch and the factory welded mount, don't mind drilling new mount holes.
8 hp to 12 hp.

That's a tricky one. Finding even an 8hp with a 3/4" shaft will be difficult. The Honda GX270 is 1", the predator 301 is 1"... Forget finding something nearer to 12hp in 3/4".

You could always buy an engine and have the crank turned, but for what that would cost, you could likely just buy a new clutch or t/c driver and call it a day.

If you are dead set on keeping a 3/4" clutch, you will probably be limited to rebuilding your current engine or machining the shaft on a new one.

There are very few 8HP and above engines with 3/4 shafts

Biggest questions to be answered:
A: What is the weight/style of the kart?
B: What style clutch is it? Centrifugal or CVT (Torque Converter)
C: What terrain are you planning on going over?

Your best be would be buy a Predator 212 or DuroMax 7hp. Both have the 3/4 shaft and both are GX190 clones so the mods for them are limitless. Gives you plenty of power and other options for drivetrain are possible.
