My 6.5hp kart with its 2-speed box had low range at ~14.4:1 with 13" tires and it still did about 20km/h = 16miles/hr.

With those big wheels I wonder if you need to gear even lower?

Yeah, toystory. I think it will be okay on level ground but I doubt the centrifugal clutch at that gearing with those tires will have much performance on hill-climbing. I suppose I will be pioneering the first ride and getting back to you on that! What doesn't work well enough can be changed. . . modified . . . upgraded . . .

You know how it goes.

And my personal favorite (he wanted to build a go kart, too!):

I hooked up the brake line from the master cylinder to the caliper. I have a leak. Didn't have a chance to work on it Saturday. It will receive some attention this weekend.

(First post) I find this funny as I'm building something similar... I've just came across a whole slew of scrap RV parts (long story)... but ya, found this thread while looking for info to help my build. Glad to see I'm not alone in the insanity :p

Sorry to take so long in sending updates. With the gearing the way it was, it was completely UNDERPOWERED. I didn't have enough time or sprockets. I've been traveling A LOT with work and haven't touched any projects in a long long long time. I will get back into it. I haven't forgotten!
