If you could had/found a manual for it, it may tell you what to do. Most of the time it is just lining up the dots with something else in there. You could try lining up the dots and then manually rotating the crankshaft to see that it works properly and has compression and everything. If it turns too easily and has no compression then the timing could be off.

you want to line up the dots, and you also want to make sure it's on the right stroke, compression or exhaust. I can't remember if you engine hits them both on one "go round" of the cam or not. If they line up twice, you need to make sure you're on the right stroke.

Marks can only line up one way. For every complete revolution of crankshaft, cam shaft will always rotate 1/2 revolution. Conversely, for every complete revolution of camshaft, crankshaft will always make exactly 2 revolutions. This never changes once set and can only be set one way. There is nothing else to check. When marks are aligned you can close it up.

Ha ha! I was actually thinking of getting the Rescue Rangers logo and taking the thunder bolt out of the middle and replacing it with a cam. I didn't go that far though. LOL
