So, it looks like he cut a section out of the down tube to make way for the starter?:surrender:

How long can you go before it over heats? Those starters are incredibly powerful.

i only saw the bike as is, and only long enuff to snap the pics...looks like tire sidewall, i'm clueless about the roller (except it's not the original starter gear) or tire wear, but the contact area looks pretty smooth.

i don't think the contraption was ever capable of, or used for, anything but scary-fast sprints, and i don't think the guy cared about burning up a junkyard starter.

That bike you got looks pretty sweet. I had an old one that was a little more PeeWee Herman looking that I sold last spring. Now I wish I didn't sell it since I have seen a couple companies that make small motor kits with an included gas tank that all bolts right on for a couple hundered $.

the ZAP ElectriCruiser IS a very nice bicycle no doubt.

btw-those chinese "Happy Time" engines are real crap & major unreliable.

an evolution of my bicycle from toy to vehicle: http://motor-assisted-bicycling.1062526.n5.nabble.com/Sabrina2-from-then-to-now-tp4728216.html

the cruiser i bought so to strip the (very nice) wheels & saddle for my full-suspension vertical. and the ZAP electric stuff will be the next step for my bike: http://motor-assisted-bicycling.1062526.n5.nabble.com/ZAP-DX-Electric-Assist-tp5636890.html

for anyone interested, here's a growing list of motorized-bicycle laws: http://motor-assisted-bicycling.106...cle-Laws-A-List-of-Gov-t-Sites-tp5552249.html

beware, a lot of places are requiring license registration insurance for gasoline-assisted bicycles, and some places are making them totally illegal.

with few exceptions, tho, electric-assisted bicycles are enjoying a lot of freedoms.
