I'm sittin' here trying to figure out why this doggone 40 series keeps spinin' at low RPMs, I then consult the belt's package and the charts on gokartsupply.com and realize I mounted the driven unit backwards- Would you agree that is that my problem?

Yes you need a different spring in the driven to run it like that and if you flip it you will need a longer belt and it looks like you wont have enough frame clearance

I agree BUT since this thing is hitting the road Sunday, I am going to modify the frame instead

The driven unit will "hang" like the larger sprocket on jackshaft #2, I'm not a fan of that but I'm out of options and time

Why does the driven unit "compress" when installed backwards?

yes sir, from this thread, this is the only industrial winch I've built and could seriously be a game changer for Phoenix Winch, the client is super pleased, they're ordering 2 more winches from me and presenting this build to the cable manufacturer this week, I might not get any other orders for them, or I could get too many!

ah ha ha ha ha ha, look closer my friend, the chain is behind a wall of 1/4" makrolon, it's crazy clear

it helps if you look near the pillow blocks, you can see where I cut out relief for them
