old window maintenance

I guess im appealing to the DIY bit of DIY go karts

i live in a house built in the late 40s
and of course all the windows are the sliding type
box sash

and of course living in a climate of both ends of the humidity scale for some 70 years has taken its toll
they are all stiff and some are stuck
iv tried cleaning the tracks
also tried lubing them with silicone spray and/or candle wax

it seems they usually work off weights but these ones appear to work off springs

anyone got any hints or tips to make them work better
most people say rip them out

they may be difficult to use and have no sealing properties but they are kinda cool
and they let in alot of air which is good in summer

The track ways are wood I presume,over time I reckon they have swelled a bit. If so you might have to use a block plane to take down high areas of the ways.
I'll ask my co worker more about these windows( I work in glass, he used to retrofit those exact type windows)

don't feel bad, my home was built in the 80's with 70's styling... and I got aluminum framing, and almost all of them are bad.. mostly from the 5 inch slab of concrete the whole house sits on has set. and now the house is all bent at different angles...

Man, the things I miss when we've got an emergency hot job at work.... After a 14 hour day, I turned the computer on, but really didn't look at it.....

nope

the moveing parts are jarrah treated with wood wax and are running on bees wax

pretty sure its the spring mechanism thatrs sticking

i pulled apart one of them
its a twisted peice of spring steel flat bar secured to the bottom of the sliding part
then there is a tube running from the top to about half way down
at the bottom of the tube therev is a slot that the spring steel fits into
as it rises the sring is twisted and counters the weight of the window

so now im going around and dismantling each one to loosen them up
