yeah give it a shot. i tried coke and it did not do a whole lot but the coke was disgusting after that so it had to do something...

yeah it doesn't even really look like DEEP deep rust it's just... deeper than the stuff you can knock off, you know? we'll see what happens, it's something until i find a good car battery.

so about an hour or two ago i did this:

and after some gentle tapping against a BIG wooden dowel, then getting progressively harder..... this is the end result:

 :cheers2:

looks like that's one problem solved ;)

now i gotta pull that clutch off, take a look at the rest of the insides, determine whether i can just hone it and ring it or if i need to get a piston, and put'er back together :)

Por15 is good stuff. I would use it for sure. Use all 3 steps though.

i think i have their metal ready stuff.... what other part is there? i bought the stuff a long time ago and i was told i have enough to do the VW Rabbit i already had bought the POR15 for a couple coats and still have a lot left over. so i should have enough of that stuff.

You have a vw rabbit? petrol or diesel - pics!?

hahaha, well it's in pieces right now, i was stripping it down to restore it, but now i'm getting a Corrado instead.

it's was a gas 1.7L til i took it out :p
here it is before i turned it into a project, i had a Kamei hood scoop on it as well after this pic:

anyway, back to go karts! :)
updates soon! my brother is honing the cylinder and working on tearing the motor apart to see what everything looks like inside. then we'll sand the parts and paint em up :)

just waiting on parts so i can mock some things up
then we'll be ready to tear it down and start on paint :)

If you opened the can of Por15 I am willing to bet the can is now no good.

Marine Clean, Metal Ready and then POR15.

nah i haven't opened it yet, it's brand new. and the guy told me what to do when i do open it, and that's to stick a piece of plastic or a wal-mart bag in between the can and the lid so it doesn't seal itself shut.

Sorry to hear that man...
Be praying for you.

thank you sir.

updates on stuff i now have in:

brake rod from Lowe's
tie rod stock (zinc plated even...everyone say oooo! aaahh!)
clevis for the brakes
heims end for the brake rod
throttle cable (still trying to figure out how i'm going to engineer that....)
new clutch & chain
new front wheel bearings (need to buy rear ones, might as well.)
should be getting a snowblower with a 5hp Briggs on it... i'll be rippin into that as soon as i get it.
bought some dark grey metallic wheel paint for the frame
wrinkle black for the motor
skateboard bearings
shoulder bolts to hold the pedals on
new steering wheel (FINALLY...but it's not totally the right bolt pattern... go figure :mad2: )

should be getting to the build as soon as possible... things have been real hectic with my dad passing and running around trying to take care of things that have been left undone, taking care of my mom's needs, etc. it's been a pretty dang fast 2 weeks. i believe the good Lord will take care of us though.

"God takes care of dumb creatures, son"..... a quote for my dad for you all to chuckle at. haha. wasn't directed at me... it was for all the times we do stupid things and come out alive. lol.

anyway, still left on the agenda to buy/do:
-rear wheel bearings
-a couple frickin dies so i can make threads on this brake rod and tie rods :mad2:
-a nice automotive clearcoat for the frame
-get the wheel centers either powdercoated or just spray em with epoxy paint
-various knick knacks and doo dads(cable stops, wire ties, nuts, bolts, etc.)
-gotta find some sheet aluminum or metal for a body (going to attempt one if we have the metal
-seat or the materials to make a seat

so anyway... hopefully i can get down to building sometime this week. just wanted to update on some stuff.

well, we're back, haha.

i haven't really spent any time on this thing lately but things have sort of settled down as much as they're going to, so i figure i should get back to building :)

i'll have some pics soon of what i've been cooking up. i have some welding to do, painting, among other things, but hopefully we'll be ready to put this thing back together.
