Old kart, new suspension

We have an old carter bros with live axle and no springs. We would like to soften it by adding spring suspension. Has anyone converted one of these to springs?

Do you think the front is more important to convert or the rear? My guess is the rear since your butt, that otherwise absorbs the bumps, is closer to the rear wheels.

Our other constraint is width since I have a wagon, or karting brake if you will, that is only about 6 inches wider inside than the kart axles.
