The gov is disabled... That will spell disaster if that is left in its current state... The gov gear inside will potentially explode if high enough rev achieved.
With the gov connected and setup right, it leaves the butterfly open aways enough to start right...
Direct connection causes to close further that if it had been done factory(its missing the small thin spring) ... and thus it doesnt start right..
You could cock open the throttle a little and let it back when it starts... but it kinda make it go quick and potentially a runaway could occur..
Let see what the other say on the direct connection of the throttle..
All my engines have gov in.

They governor rod isn't attached to any spring from what I can tell. I'm going to drain the fuel and take the tank off.

Stupid non adjustable carbs... into the bin with it! Lol. Some ports in the carb could be clogged and giving you a hard time, when you say you cleaned it did you tear it right apart as in removing the pilot jet under the idle screw also? But seriously these non adjustable carbs are a nightmare I replace them right away with cheap (adjustable) ones from Amazon unless they say Keihin on them (then I get a rebuild kit), those are the only ones for these motors I feel are worth the trouble.

I just seen a carb and air filter combo for $20. May just buy it

If the governors internals are intact I'd grab a kit to get it hooked back up while your at it and be sure the mixture screw on the carb is adjustable!

Check the governor and it's connected with a spring Aldo the screw it good to go. Going to drain fuel and check the tank. Also looking at 22mm carb and see what this do.

Ordered mikuni 22mm from gopowersports. Hopefully this fixes the issue.

Got my gopowersports mikuni 22mm carb. Not to bad to take the old one off with the studs in the head. I still have to buy some longer fuel lines and we shall see what she does.

Got the fuel line connected and started the kart. That OEM carb is trash compared to the mikuni! I hit the gas and instantly realized the chain wasn't right enough as it flew off. Will move the engine forward more and see what it does.

 Making progress!

Yes sir. Carb has been adjusted and it fires right up. Next issue is that the chain flies off even after I push the engine all the way up and tighten it. Probably buy a new chain as this one seem to kink up all the time.

Did some searching and found out that I need a new chain. Mine keeps knotting up and even after sprayed with penetration oil. Going to buy a new one and clutch.

Ok, back on it! It was scorching in the garage in Tx, so I got a new #35 chain and clutch for the 212. The issue we are running into is that the chain is not sitting flush on the sprocket that is attached to the tire, and it flies off. Does anyone have an idea of what sprocket to buy to fit the #35 chain?
