I rode this go-kart easily 15 years ago. Its been sitting a while as you can see.

The clutch and chain are toast I think. I want to get it running. I was thinking about adding a Predator 6.5hp. It would be around $140 with clutch and chain I think. Only other thing would be a drum brake pad, not bad.

My question: Is it worth it? Craigslist doesnt really seem to have deals, everyone wants $500+ in my area (Bay Area Norcal)

I also remember going up on two wheels as a kid a few times, trying to turn in the court without breaking. To avoid this, would putting smaller rear tires help? Lowering the kart?

Thanks

Might as well clean out gas tank and carb and try to start it....u can probably find a clutch on ebay for $40 or less and a new chain if u even need one. The chain might just need a good cleaning

Dont know yet. I didn't try starting it yet. I wanted to get a clutch and if it started be able to ride it. Guess I can try first.

Why spend money on a clutch you may not be able to use? Get the engine to run first then buy a new clutch.

Don't forget about the pump diaphram; chances are, after 15 years, it's deteriorated a bit...

Chain toast? Most likely- although you could play with it with penetrating oil......but why bother when you can get 10' of it for around $20. The clutch however, is a different story. They don't necessarily go bad just sitting- unless that's underwater, they go bad from wear. I'd spray it with PB Blaster through the holes-( to make sure the springs and weights come free and try it first. What do you have to lose.

BTW- I just bought a clutch like that for $27, so if you decide to get a new one, PM me and I'll tell you where.

Edit: Forgot to mention- also found a place that sells chains by the foot- so you probably need 3' and it's $2 a foot.

i would never spray a clutch with penetrating oil you will burn out a centrifugal clutch like that.
