I was given a craftsman 2 stroke weed whacker a while back, it needed a new carb. I couldn’t find the exact carb so I got one that was extremely close. I ended up having to adjust the H/L and I got it running good, I also replaced the gas lines and filter.
Then around the beginning of last summer I went to use it and it ran like normal. But after about 5-10 min it constantly shuts off and won’t start again.

Has anybody had similar problems? Or any suggestions? Is it possible I set the RPMs too high and did something to the cylinder/piston?

When I set the H/L it was running like weed whackers should.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated, as I’d like to get this(among a few others) out of the way so I can start another build ASAP.

I went to work on it a week or so ago. I took off the shroud and made sure there wasn't any melting wires in it, nothing. While putting it back together I noticed the gas cap says 40:1 NOT 50:1. So that's a factor.

Could it just be that or could I have damaged the cylinder wall or piston? I wasn't running it long when I did get it running, not even a tank of gas.

I haven't gotten to working on it more since.
