Hey guys, remember that 8hp flathead I was talking about putting on my kart? well, it turns out it has a tapered shaft :mad2:

Does anyone know where I can get a 3/4" shaft crank for this engine or how to make an adapter so it will fit (the clutch)?

I know you have some experience in this kibble so if you could help me out, that would be great.

Thanks

Sell the generator (complete) and buy a engine with the correct crank. The crankshaft is worth as much as a used 8hp in good shape with a cast iron sleeved bore.

I know but I really want to keep this engine because it's in almost new condition and has very low hours on it. Hey.... maybe I could have a pulley drive with a manual clutch.... I might not have to sell it after all!

Look up the part numbers for the cranks. That crank seems to have a "3" ingraved on it too.

I didn't really do much to my crank with the tapered shaft. All I did was cut out a keyway and attach a pulley on it. The pulley goes to another pulley on the jackshaft that has the clutch on it. Look for my threads with the name: "kibbles kontinued kart konstruction." I would link to it but I'm posting this from my phone, as I won't have regular internet from a few days, and it's not easy to do here.
