I am researching off road cart plans to build a 2-seater for my kids (and me.) I have a 13hp Predator and plan on using a TC. I have zero experience building a go cart but have a decent amount of fab and welding experience and have been browsing here for about a month. I really like the looks of the ubuilditplans SII and the Edge Products Trax II. I realize the Trax does not have a suspension(would also have to be beefed up for larger engine) and the total expected cost to build the SII concerns me. I was thinking of buying the plans to one of these and modifying a bit. Does anyone have experience with either or have a suggestion on others? Also, while having experience building from blueprints, I have never had to build off of metric plans. Would I run into issues with conversions to standard sizings in the US if I went with the Edge plans? Any advice is appreciated.

Dude, you don't need to buy plans. There is enough info and very knowledgeable group of guys here that can help you with what you need. So you want something like the Trax2? We can "help" you build something like it,cheaper....
Let a few others chime in. We can come up with dimensions and what knot.....:welcome2:

Having measurements & pics on paper does help but, there's no reason you cant create them yourself; there are loads of free CAD apps now that you can use to create a design or there's always the good old pencil & paper :)

I think pencil and paper are more my style lol. The reason I was looking at plans is they already have the engineering done. Since I do not have experience with cart building yet I figured that might help me eliminate a few mistakes. However, there seems to be plenty of knowledge on this sight to overcome problems.

We can help you design the frame . Get a piece of paper and sketch out what you have envisioned. You want a 2 seater, with no suspension, but you can build a swing arm rear suspension just as cheap. We will go over that later, for now lets focus on the main shape of your kart, and we will come up with the dimensions. I have a chart that gives basic body dimensions , ie hip width, arms length, ect ect... We can figure it out, and keep you from wasting money and tube on poor judgement. Its not rocket science, you just need some common sense.....

I'm kinda liking the looks of the taipan now. I would like to widen a bit to accommodate 2 riders. Prob an adult and a child or teenager and child. Would I also need to lengthen to get a good length to width ratio?

Just because you widen a kart to accommodate a passenger doesn't necessarily mean you need to widen the track, simply widen the main body of the kart & leave the axles where/how they are...

I like the looks of the taipan for the frame anyway. Firemanjim mentioned a suspension? And maybe some width dimensions for two people?

Need advice..plans..

Hi all,
I am joining this thread as i need advice as well with an kart build.
I have not yet build a kart myself so it is kewl to call me a noob!
I am planning to use an 500cc Polaris engine, as i have an entire ATV to work from, i am hoping i can use the ATV suspension, to build a nice small kart with some sand and bumps ability, as i live on a game reserve, i have other bikes for proper off roading.
I would love some opinions on this build, as i basically just want to build a frame for the engine, gearbox and suspension, cooling, then fit smaller wheels? Obviously the frame will need to be strong with a roll cage, the ATV i am using is the Polaris sportsman 500cc, or 495cc 2002 model, so running with carburetor if that helps.
I'm not good with plans and designing myself but can build just about anything from a decent set of plans.

thanks in advance

Yeah man, been busy. Work is unusually busy for this time of year.... Then life adds its obstacles.....lol
Anyhoo,.... Yes, I can give you basic dimensions. I need a favor from you though. Post me a pic, or link, or sketch of what you like/want..... And how big/old are the 2 kiddos in question?
Are you gonna make a bench seat, or are you buying some bucket seats? What size tires do you want to run? The more info you give me, the better I can draw out/ with measurements, something to go by... With a dead swing arm suspension, until you have the $$ for good shocks to use it.
I will look at the taipan in a few and see what I can come up with for you... :cheers2:

Here is a pic of the taipan. I have the plans for it also. They aren't very expensive. I just want to widen a bit and lengthen if need be. The boys are 12 and 14 and skinny so no need to over do it. I'm not sure about suspension. I dont want to spend a bunch of money on shocks. As far as tires I'm thinking 20 inch and I'm still undecided on bench seat versus two buckets. Seems like two buckets may require more room. Also I need guidance on what TC to use for the 13 hp predator.
