Off road kart identification?

Can anyone help me identify the model or brand of gokart I just purchased? Going to start fixing up and would like to know what I got! I think I got a pretty decent deal on this thing so hopefully it is worth fixing!

Also, I should mention that I am new to this forum and new to go karts in general. This is my first kart and can’t wait to get up and running to have some fun with my family. Thanks in advanced for any and all answers I can get now and later as I am rebuilding this kart!

Hello welcome...

It looks like one of the china branded karts, typically with a gy6 type of motor...

Can you post a few pics of the rear area.. That'll help to ID the motor for sure...

Here is a couple shots of the rear. I was kind of thinking it was probably a china brand kart but just curious since it needs brakes and probably some other chassis parts. Any info or leads on where I could find parts would be great as well.

Someone added a new motor plate at some point and I am planning on getting it going on a budget with a gx140 I have laying around.

Nice project!

Unfortunately I think you are going to come up short power wise with a GX140. You will have to gear so low (especially with your rear tyre diameter), that you will be going walking pace. That is not a light kart. I would suggest at least a 200cc engine like the Predator.

That's correct. Those buggies come standard with gy6 type engines, so using a GX engine is going to require some fabrication and gearing changes. The gy6 has build in gearing that allows the buggy to have a smaller rear axle sprocket

Thanks for the info guys! My plan for now is to just do some trail driving in the timber so I’m hoping with gearing I can get enough torque for what I want and I’d be happy for now with 20 mph if I ever was able to get it on a flat straight ground. Future plans include sourcing engine and other parts to swap in a small motorcycle or snow mobile engine.

Gear wise I’m going with a 12 tooth clutch and a 72 tooth sprocket. Hoping that will be enough for now. Kart isn’t as heavy as it appears. I was surprised at how light it was when I loaded and unloaded it.

Also, I have just about any tool imaginable to be able to accomplish what I need to do to get this going. From a welder to a paint gun, I’m pretty covered. Lots of previous automotive experience.

You are going to have to gear waaaay lower than 6:1. Please don't go with this gearing, you will be wasting your time. You will also not get to 20mph if you gear appropriately. You might have some torque, but you won't reach those speeds

So jack shaft down and try for 10 or 13:1 range? This won't be a permanent set up, just something to go explore the trails for this summer. I am already looking around for other engine options when I am ready to actually spend some money on this kart.

My other option I have available is what I am guessing is probably like a 13 horse or so horizontal shaft engine sitting around as well. Only reason I was going to use the gx140 was every clutch I find is only good through 6.5 hp. Any suggestions or ways I could go about using that engine instead?

Decided to go Big and rebuild a gx390 I had laying around. Needed rings and while I hadn’t it opened up I purchased an upgraded cam (nothing crazy just a little better than stock). Putting a k&n filter on it. I purchased a 40 series torque converter kit and also parts to add a jack shaft. Any reason I shouldn’t go with a 10 tooth sprocket on jack shaft and a 60 tooth on the axle with this set up? Looking for torque rather than high speed for trails but wouldn’t mind a decent 30-40 mph top speed. Achievable with this gearing or wishful thinking?

18in tires with a 6to1 ratio will net you 33mph at 3600rpms

if you remove the governor in your engine you can get a bit more. the TC will allow you to run the 6to1 fine. experiment with it to see what you need

The closest resemblance to your cart that I have found after browsing Chinese karts for almost an hour is the trailmaster 150 xrs. It shares that triangular thing at the top of where the windshield would be as well as front suspension design and the crescent in the rear of the swing arm.

Thanks! The triangular bar up top is something I haven’t been able to find yet. Thank you for guiding me to this one, probably as close as I’ll get.

I have removed the governed when I had the side cover off. I’m in the “put it back together and hope it works” stage at the moment. Stripped and repainted everything on the kart. Now it’s time for the fun part!

Here is an updated photo of some work I did over the last weekend. Have some minor things left but should be able to get it started and running within the next week. I got the motor mounted with the jackshaft today but forgot to take a picture of it all. Will do that tomorrow.
