So I've been looking around for an engine for the off road kart I'm going to build. And I found a 1995 Polaris automatic 250cc 2 stroke atv engine. I was wondering if you guys think this would be able to get me going about 40mph on a 1 person dune buggy. If not would a 14hp 4 stroke low rpm general purpose type engine work if it had a TC?

Sorry about that past post I accidently hit send. I was trying to ask if the 14hp engine would be able to get me going 40mph and still have fast acceleration.

Are you going to get the clutches with it and the forward reverse gearbox, i ask because the one on the motor is a tapered shaft i believe. I have the same setup i may be using but i kept both the converter clutches and belt.

Does a tapered shaft need special clutches and things like that?

There are no clutches made for tapered shafts (excepth the ones that came with the engine originally). That is why you were asked if you were using the original clutches that came with the polaris

If not, you are going to have to manufacture some sort of adaptor to take a normal clutch

The engine does come with clutches. Also does anyone know a place online where I can get parts for this 1995 Polaris 250cc 2 stroke?
