Just got an off-road cart (unknown model/manufacturer). It has a 150cc engine with an e brake and reverse.

it looks like it might have an aftermarket cdi.

it cranks but won’t start.

Checked compression (150psi)
Checked spark against head
Cleaned carb and tested a brand new carb (same behavior).

Not sure what to try next.

I don’t have a timing light, I can get one. Any YouTube links or images of what I’m looking for or how to check this?

I'm assuming your engine looks like this.

Screenshot_20241117_191732_Chrome.jpg

The right side is pointing to a timing mark on the flywheel. There is one marked T and another marked F. This is Top dead center and Fire.

There should be a small screw head looking plug on the cover. Take it out and flash the timing light to see if the F is there when cranking.

I've found the old school dumb timing lights work better than the new digital ones with the fancy advance controls.

If your mark is not there you could have a sheared timing key or something like that.

Your info given is limited so I'm guessing here.

Post pics. It helps us know what we are dealing with.
