Small Racing Motor or Motorcycle engine?

HI, I'm building an adult 2 seater go kart. Well, I'm just putting new motor on existing go kart. I want something that will spin the tires. Can't decide if I should buy a small engine and upgrade it or go with a 600-750cc, like a CBR600R or GSXR750. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I definitely want something that will be dependable and start every time instead of staying broke down and I have about $1000 budget on engine. Thanks for the help.

One vote for motorcycle engine. snowmobile engines are also a good option. A modified small engine will never be an affordable reliable tire spinner IMO.

Bang for your buck a wrecked motorcycle is really the best, you get a transmission built in, easy to run a chain. plenty of power. As long as you choose a reliable bike engine it should last a lifetime. Crotch rockets easily go 15-20k miles ridden hard. you'll never put that much on a go cart.
