Decided to encourage some folks, or maybe give you something to laugh at - Whatever.
It started out just buying a Yerf Dog with a Predator 6.5hp, which was rough to say the least. Determined that engine was shot, which is what birthed the project.
At this point, I am doing the last bit of fitting before assembling for a test run. I will then tear it back down, clean everything up and make it pretty.

Due to the size of the engine, I cannot fit anything else in the original frame area. I had a local shop bend some tube for me and I welded up a roof basket for the battery, main electrical, and fuel tank. There is solid round stock welded to the frame, then the round tube slides over to mount the basket. This leaves the engine fully accessible.

Nice basket

How big/heavy of a battery you gonna put up there?

How big/heavy of a fuel tank you gonna put up there?

Gonna add some braces?

Just keep in mind
...what kind of dynamic load your gonna put on them basket legs
...when you go to do a power slide
...or other quick turn/maneuver

* Call it Godfery
...Yerf Dog backwards :2guns:

Is the mounting base heavy enough for your motor?
Looks like it had a hard life, but you ressurected it for sure!
Looking good!

Godfrey is pretty good.....

Thatcrazydad: hold your phone sideways with the button on the right when you take pictures and they will be properly oriented.

Nosandwich: Not sure which way I hold my phone, but the photos are correct on my PC when I upload them to the forum. I will check the next time I shoot some.

qtband: The mounting plate thicker than the original - and welded much better!

Functional Artist: The basket is extremely stable on the cart. My coworker brought up this point to me as well. He suggested gussets at the top and bottom. Not sure if I need it, as the stuff in the basket is pretty light. See my next post.

Managed to get it running this weekend. Keep in mind this is roughly assembled, just to make sure everything will function and not blow up. In the picture, the headlights are on and it is running. You can see fairly limited stuff in the basket.

Considering what wires I can run through the frame and possibly fixing the basket in place, if I need to service the engine, I can pull the seat and it will come straight out.

I used trailer wire from the main electrical box (far left basket) up to the ignition key. Really happy with progress so far, especially when the engine fired right up!

Finally got this thing going, thought I would update the thread. You may notice that, in previous posts, I was mounting the engine backwards. That was a fun revelation - but I finally got it worked out. I had to make a custom exhaust pipe, as well as relocate the choke knob. Overall, am happy with the result thus far. I put about 5 miles on it, so I know it's good. Just a few more bugs to work out before the teardown to clean up my welds and paint.

Just to follow up from some previous concerns, the rack is totally stable. I don't have plans to do much hardcore off-roading, so I don't anticipate any issues. I do need to add some foam inside the battery box to limit noise.

Adding some pics of the electrical box, dashboard, and exhaust.

Sorry about all the posts, I realized that I never revealed any specs:

Yerf Dog chassis (3303 I believe)
13hp Kohler Command engine (396cc)
40 series Chinese torque converter
18 x 8.50 x 8 rear tires
Single drum brake - soon to convert to caliper
Electric key start
LED headlights
12v lawn and garden battery
15A charging system
5 gal gas tank

Top speed - still unknown (not ballsy enough on a drum brake) I just found an app that I am going to try.

Just tested top speed. It's as fast as I will go in the space I have with a single drum brake. Not THAT crazy. It could go faster for sure.

Got header wrap for the exhaust, just waiting for a kid to grab the exhaust pipe. I watched a number of videos and am really pleased with the result. Already burned off the oils and let the kart idle for a while after. All good.

I see you're still posting sideways pics. Trust me, regardless of how they look on your computer, this forum's software will ALWAYS orient in LANDSCAPE mode. You can turn pictures anyway you want, I can post them in all 4 directions, but keep in mind, it's always going to be relative to the original landscape camera location..... in other words, sometimes you need to turn a pic sideways to get it posted normally.

Again, take the pictures as I suggested and they will automatically be oriented correctly.
