Normal brake feel

I repairing a Kasea LM150llR. The brakes didn’t work. The pistons on the front were frozen but I got them loose. I replaced the back caliper.

I’m not sure if what is considered normal. The brakes seem very weak. What is the normal feel? I’ve never driven it new so I have no idea what normal is. Does it take lots of distance or should they lock up and stand me on my head.

What’s normal for this type of go kart?

When you replaced the rear caliper did you adjust the pads so one touches the rotor? The closer you can get the pads to the rotor without excess drag the better the pedal will be.

It wouldn't hurt to scuff the pads & rotors with #60 or #80 grit sandpaper to knock of any glazing then wash them off with Brakekleen.

I did and the parking does work now. I’ll go back and check again. I’m concerned the front brakes aren’t working at all. I haven’t driven it much but the brakes seem very weak.

How good should the brakes be? I have no frame of reference.

I don't think you need to have the wheels lock up but the brakes should apply and bring the kart to a stop pretty quickly. Put the front of the kart on stands, spin one front wheel at a time while pushing the brake pedal and see if the front calipers are working.

That’s the plan for the front. I might try the sandpaper also. The rear brakes were abused. When I replaced it the pads were worn completely out and it was steel on steel.
