Hello everyone. Just been lurking around the forum for the past few days. I have seen alot of nice karts on here. I'm hoping to build one really soon. I do have a dare I say lawn mower I am working on for myself lol. But I have 3 boys and am looking into getting them into karting and my youngest has takin an interested in helping my with my mower so we wanna build one. Hopefully we'll start on it soon and I'll post some picks in a build thread. Can't believe everyone on here finds such good deals on karts. I can't seem to find anything around under 250 lol. Guess I'll have to keep looking.

Welcome to the forum! Usually alot of garbage picking can get free motors, steel, and other parts

Well Karl out where I am at anything like that gets picked for the scrap yard lol. Old timers out here like to scrap alot lol. Nice to see a fellow buckeye on here. I was born in springfield and raised in southern ohio on the river. I will definately keep my eyes open for any kind of steel or motors lol. Most of the motors that I usually run across are vertical shaft however. Not alot of horizontals laying around. LOL.

Do you have a write up on that lol? I can see from the looks of it you just turned the carb 90 degrees right? I have a few old mowers around that have good engines on them I could maybe attempt this. I have an old mini bike here that I got from a buddy but the motor is locked up and rusted beyond belief lol. I was thinking since I have it I could go ahead and redo it. I have a little 2hp briggs that is side shaft I was thinking of throwing on it just to have something small for the boys to learn on but didn't know if it would be big enough to push the bike with them on it lol. Nice vid btw.

Welcome. I just saw in our local classified flyer that there was someone giving away metal they called scrap. Who knows what they call scrap but there's stuff like that that you could hit up for free stuff!

I tilted the carb and fastened it with a bolt that goes through the shroud. For inside, I cut off the oil slinger thingy with the plastic gear. I got the hack saw and cut it off and reinstalled it as a washer, Then I got the oil dipper from a blown up 3hp briggs. You can make on from some steel then harden it.Then it should be running! They major problem is they have a 7/8 shaft, witch you canot get a clutch for. You need to get the shaft brought down to 3/4 or make a jackshaft and find a pully or sprocket that fits the shaft.

Thanks Red. Yeah I think that might be a little past my knowledge at the moment Karl. If it were a VW aircooled motor I could tell you all about that but I am new to the small engine repair lol.
