Hi,

I just bought a used Action Motorsports promo kart (indy style). It has a 3.5hp briggs and stratton with a toothed belt drive and seems to need the wheel to turn otherwise it stalls. I can only start it with the wheel off the ground and once driving, if the brakes are engaged it stalls. I'm thinking the clutch would be the culprit, but I can't seem to find any clutches with toothed belt drive like the one on it.

Any ideas how I can get this running right? Am I on the right track thinking the clutch would cause this behavior? Any idea where I can find one or how I can further identify it?
Thanks!

quite possibly a MAX TORQUE cog style...

remove clutch, grease the bronze/brass bushing. and thoroughly clean the springs and shoes, sand the drum and shoes down (free from rust buildup)

Yeah, that's the trouble, I think. I've been searching online and coming up with nothing! Hopefully he'll have an idea. I'll try servicing it, can't do it today, but I should be able to get it done tomorrow.

Can you rotate the wheel with the engine off? 1 of two things is wrong.

1. Poorly lubricated freewheel bushing
2. Clutch overheated and needs new spring(s)

If I rotate the wheel with the engine off, the engine also moves. I'm going to pull the clutch later today and see what's going on.
Thanks Guys!

I took it off today and cleaned it up, sanded the drum and shoes, and lubed the bushing and it's working now! Thanks guys! Sorry to be such a novice at this, but now I know! :wai:
