Noob with wheel spin

So we just finished our first build. I ordered parts according to the plan I bought. We have a lot of wheel spin in wet/thick grass and in loose mulch. And initially we had some clutch smoke.

I oiled the clutch per the instructions on a YouTube channel. I screwed in further the little set screw on the throttle assembly that keeps it from opening up too much. The clutch has not smoked again.

I thought we had made it all better until I got on my driveway that has a hill to it. With me on the kart, as I went up the hill it slowed to a stop and with a little more throttle the wheel spun on concrete. I was surprised at this. I searched on this site and tried to read up a little on ratios, can't say I understand it yet.

The engine is 6.5 hp. The clutch is 10 teeth, the sprocket is 54 teeth, and the wheel is 13 inches.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

That's about a 5:1 gear ratio its a-ok, 10 teeth on the clutch and 54 teeth on the sprocket, if you look hard enough you'll see how I got 5:1 for a ratio...

What kind of tire's are they?? They don't sound very grippy if there slipping on concrete...

I can't remember the brand, I bought it from BMI. They're pretty knobby and brand new. I'll take a pic later and post when I can.

Well, I guess we'll give it another shot this evening.

I've wondered if my welding skills were so bad that maybe my 4 wheels don't sit level with one another to the point that the powered wheel is sitting a little too high?

And then, I wondered if I need to adjust the throttle further such that the clutch would engage at a different RPM. Maybe I'm giving too much throttle and the clutch engages at "burn out" level.

I don't know, just wild guesses at this point. So the invisible wall is a great theory at this point.

LOL sorry. I think you should be able to make it up the driveway. Those tires should grip the pavement. How steep is your driveway?

I don't know about you guys, but I always turn the throttle down when I want to climb a hill.

I hit an invisible wall once when I was a kid riding my ten speed.
My little brother was riding on the crossbar, the bike suddenly stopped as we were flying downhill on a paved street.

We both went airborne.
It turned out it wasn't an invisible wall after all, it was his bare foot in the spokes.

I'm still stumped as how mtn sledder got a 5.1 ratio?
I divide 54 by 10 and get a different answer.
Something I'm not getting here?

Did you convert the gear ratio into Canadian?
Canadian gears are like Hockey players. They have less teeth.

Well, no more wheel spin. A little more runway before the ascent did the trick.

Now, I'm trying to get the front wheels aligned properly. The tie rod threads are crap.
