Thanks!!! That's a newer model but it it helped me figure it out. Mines from 1969 and starts 1st pull

I don't know I just cut some wire and made it work. Quick question, how can I figure out what pitch chain the sprocket/clutch use?

What you have to do is measurethe distance between the teeth of the sprocket. Then have a look at the table in this link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roller_chain#Chain_strength

3/8" gives you a #35 chain, and a 1/2" is a #40/#41 chain

I am glad I could help. My engine is from 1976

I just took a chance and bought some #35 chain and it was right. Gotta love the old engines. I'm gonna clean this thing up and make it look brand new
