Hey my friend just bought a super wheels by carter go kart with a 6.5 Kohler courage engine. It has a clutch but he really wants a torque converter on it. He has the money to buy one, but he doesn't know which one to get. And once he gets it, does he just unbolt the old clutch and replace it with the torque converter or what?

You may need to jockey somethings around to get it all to fit.

It's hard to give an honest opinion without picts and knowing what TC your friend plans on going with.

a carter superwheels is -if I recall correctly- offering enough room to just swap to a TAV-Kit (Torque converter with backplate like Paul mentioned)

which one to get is based on the engine shaft diameter as well as on the type of sprocket that's mounted to the axle..

So 3/4" or 1" shaft, #40 or #35 chain? (thus sprocket pitch)

No matter what, all four possible versions are easily obtainable for roughly 100 USD on ebay

But buy new chain, most likely you will need to run a diffferent length of chain, and it's easier to keep the old chain with the clutch, just in case you want to have the clutch as a backup plan, in case the TC belt breaks for example)
