(Noob) How to connect the wheel to an axle?

Ok thank you so much!! That is amazing info!!! :D It's going to help me so much!

I think my motor is 8mm D-shaft. (see pic 1)

I tried looking for an Allen key hole on the sprocket but I don't see any.

Edit: So when you tighten the hub to the axle, it will also hold the "key" from sliding off?

Yep, it looks like your motor has a 8mm D-shaft.
I'd post a thread on that scooter forum asking if anyone sells #35 drive gears. You could also ask if #219 or #40/41 pitch drive gears are avalible in the 8mm D-shaft size, because you could purchase either of those pitch axle sprockets instead of #35.

I can see your motors drive gear is held in place with a small Roll Pin. (like the pic below)
You'll simply need to tap either end of it inward until flush with the gear, then use a small punch/hammer to drive it out. Or if you dont have the corect sized Punch, you could use a pair of pliers (or wire cutters) to pull the pin the rest of the way out.

Yes, when you tighten the hubs clamp bolt(s), this is typically all thats needed to hold the key in place. But if not, you could always instal a 1-1/4" lock collar, like these: http://www.out2win.com/catalog/lock_collars.html (or even use an automotive hose clamp) to ensure the key cant slide sideways and fall out.

I dont think you'll need any, but 2-piece lock collars like these could always be installed later without disassembling the axle:

Ok thanks. I tried asking and also looking some more, with no luck. So what I'm thinking is that I should just keep #25 chain. I still haven't been able to find any regular #25 chain plate sprockets.

But what I have found is a 65t sprocket for #25 that has a 4 hole mounting pattern that looks like it might fit this "brake hub"?

What do you think?

Ok I'll try emailing them.

So you said "I'd probably go with somewhere around a 60-tooth" for the #35 chain. From what I've read 60t #35 sprocket is 7-1/4", while the 65t #25 is 5-1/2". They also have an 80t #25 sprocket, which is 6-1/2".

Do you think it'd be better to buy the 80t?

... they never emailed me back about what sprockets bolt-circle pattern it is. But after further research I think it's 2-9/16" (not 3") Mounting Hole Circle link. Ahhh!! Why does nothing match? The motor I bought must be really rare or something.

Do you think it would work if I drill out the hole on the sprocket to fit the 3" brake hub pattern?

I have done this before. It is possible, you must mark and drill very accurately though, otherwise the sprocket can wobble, causing your chain to tighten and loosen on every rotation, which causes rapid wear and you can throw chains more easily.

I've been really busy so I haven't had much time to work on it, but I haven't given up! :thumbsup:

I bought the "brake hub" and the #25 Chain 55t sprocket. After careful measuring and drilling, I finally have a way to connect the #25 chain motor to a 1-1/4" axle!



On the surplus link it says "1-1/4" PILLOW BLOCK BEARING W/LOCK COLLAR", what does it mean by locking collar?

Also, I found this link ebay which has a cheaper price and free shipping. Would this work?

Basically there is a grub screw on the bearing which you can tighten down onto the axle so that is doesn't move side to side. As far as I know all pillow blocks have them, the ones on that ebay link definitely do, as you can see them, and they include a hex key to do up the grub screw.

I would have to think they are not, but if anything contact the seller and ask. Likewise get additional collars even if the bearing have eccentric collars/sets screw inner race. Its something that is an added measure.
