It may seem large but it's only 30cm behind the seat and it occupies the motor, controller, pot box and batteries.
The controller is not seen cause it׳s actually under the motor plate.

About the rear beake, the pad will push the tire and not the usual drum since the kart is low speed and the rear shaft is already welded to the wheels & sprocket.

First test drive.
I was a bit worried I will have issues with the home built controller, that was o.k.
However one of the 2 reverse relays (rated 30A) probably got stuck at NC position and now the reverse is not working which is no big deal.
Eventually I built a mechanical brake that pushes the tire and it works fine.
Brake design should be done with mechanical advantage thus long pedal movement will result in short brake movement and high pressure.

I love your kart. Did you weld the rear-hubs to the axle?

Yes, since the 4 tires are industrial, I just pulled out the bearing from the rear and welded them to the axle (1").

range - considering that 10 min ride consumed about 1ah, and the batteries are 9ah each, and since they are not deep cycle it's better stay above 70% capacity level I would say 30 minutes.
I have 2 55ah car batteries which in theory can provide many many hours of ride (with the same limitation) but they are much much heavier.
speed I would say about 25 km/h.

The kart is now blue painted and has new steering wheel.
One thing I should have done is adjustable seat position to accommodate different drivers. The pedals and steering wheel are too difficult to reposition and this leaves the seat but now it's too late.
It rides nice, lot of power although throttle is limited to ~50%.

Small update - I moved the pedals a bit forward as they were too close to the seat and installed a new bumper to handle more abuse and better protect the front wheels.
At first I went for bumper with elastic property and I ripped a tire for that but it didn't work out.
