We've successfully finished his kart, now this ones for Dad.:wai:

Here it is. It's pretty rough but their is a lot of good stuff here imo. I only gave $35 too.
It has an Lt500r quadzilla motor on it that would take some work to get running. MAYBE worth it tho??
Anyway, haven't even started going over it & stripping it down yet.
So, what do you guys think?

No rain; Thanks for the insight. My buddy thought that since it was said quadzilla on it that it would be the Suzuki 500. It sure don't say Suzuki on it anywhere.
Anyway, the eng. was froze up when I bought it. Its free now & has compression but it just looks like more than I want to mess with.
My main intention for buying the kart was for the live axle's & shocks. I was wanting to build something pretty close to this style. This looked like a lot better starting point than from scratch.
I'm not sure about what eng. I want to use yet but that will be a while off anyway. I'd kinda just like to keep it simple. It is tempting to get out of control with a m/c eng. but prob. serious overkill. (I have a bad habbit of doing that, lol).
I do have a brand new Honda GX240 sitting here collecting dust. I've thought about useing that with one of those belt driven clutche/trans. Not sure if that would be enough for it or not? Any opinions?
Thanks for your previous replies guys.

I say an old fourtrax 200 atv engine.. Great power reliable cheap to find a whole atv and use parts and it has 5 speed w/reverse semi auto.. Just a thought

I checked out the gy6 eng. Thats def. what I have.
I might take a second look @ mine again. The parts for it seem to be pretty cheap.
Not to mention the karts already set up for it & it has reverse.
Not sure how exiting it would be with that eng. tho. What I read said roughly 8hp to the rear wheels & 7,500 rpm. stock & that it could be easily modified to reach 10,500.
I have been keeping an eye out for a wrecked atv or m/c. cheap.

No doubt!!!, you have a good deal of parts to use.... Wow, now I got to go get my engine on the test stand, get some pics.

My son is also helping, we will be pulling some cv shafts at pull a part tomorrow. We are going with the cv shafts with integrated disk brakes, all independent suspension. Gosh I can just imagine how long it will take us, but it will be a good winter project. Fire up the wood burning stove, and get it going. Thanks for the photos, I learn something new on every post.

Sounds cool! Can't wait to see it.
My son's 10 y/o so he's a real good helper but I have to keep him busy busy or I lose his attention, lol. It gets him off the Xbox @ least & some time in the garage.

Keeping an eye out. I found a Honda 400 quad for $300. The eng. has been patially taked apart so I think I'll pass on that one.

I came across another kart for free. It needs some work also. I'm combining the the two & building "Frankinkart". -Built from the parts of other dead go karts.

OK, I have the build figured out. Well mostley.
I bought a 6.5 predator for $90plus 6.99s/h.
I pieced together a a comtec torque convertor.
I cut the center out of the buggy (retained the rear shocks) in the pic. & welded it to the front of a two seater I picked up for $20. The whole thing is fairly light. Thats what I like.
I put a header & cone filter on the predator.
I have a Honda jet, advance timing key, & 18lbs. valve springs I am going to install in the engine. Plus removing the governor.
I'm thinking about a cam. The torque conv. is only good for 9hp tho. so thats what Im shooting for.
I still have a lot of fab work to on the kart. having fun tho. My son is excited about painting it.
What do you all think?

How many pieces are you expecting you conrod to end up in? With no governor & 18lb valve springs, it's not if, but when!

Once the governor is removed, the valve springs act like a governor, creating valve bounce at around 5000rpm. Without that to hold the engine back & not upgrading the conrod & flywheel, they're the first thing to let go.

Go ahead with everything else, that's all fine but, I strongly urge you not to install the valve springs until you've sorted the rod & flywheel

new springs without new flywheel and rod (exceeding 5500-ish RPMs) = kablewie! lol.

the 212cc predators are great - for small kid karts. for big kid karts (40 is still a kid you know...) you'll want 340cc and up (the 420cc predator is nice). but for ultimate thrill, AND a penny saver - use a sled motor and the clutches and motor mount (weld the motor mount section of the sled frome to your kart, then bolt the motor and clutches and chaincase and everything else back on). you can get a 340-440cc sled CHEAPER than a big predator motor and comet 40 clutch! think like $200-300. :)

although, you ARE in florida... sleds might not be super popular down there. lol.

Ouch! Lol
I ordered from nr racing. Talked to them b4 l ordered too. They told me the rodshould be just fine but to replace the flywheel with a Honda or an aluminum flywheel. Of which I already have a Honda flywheel so I figured I was good 2 go. No big deal if I don't run the valves springs right now tho, they were cheap @ least. I appreciate your advice.
Too bad, I was more trying to get rpm than tho.
So what kinda rpm's do ya think I'm lookin @ with the governor removed & stock valve springs?
Or maybe stupider ?, would it be better run the 18 lbs spring & adjust the governor out ad best as possible?
Thanks man,
Rich

As for the pred. being great, we'll see. It came from harbor freight & they have screwed me b4 in the past so we'll see. $90 was just a little to tempting to pass up. But than again, so was the last deal they got me on.

As for small kids.......your such a sweet person! That's the best thing I've heard all day..lol really, is that sad? Oh well.
Anyway, I've been having hella fun playing with this go kart stuff. I even got the neighbors building. And I can def. See the pull to want to go nutz(&l do) . But the kart stuff is for family. If I want to get THAT crazy on my own I'll get a 250 2 stoke dirt bike. I mean, I do want my karts to be fast enough to be fun; so far that hasn't been a problem. But I can't put my kids or wife (which makes most of the bookoo) into something stupid fast.............no matter how much I would like to build it.
As for Big Boy toys,
For one, I wor
k on motorcycles for a living. Today I installed a jet kit, sprocket & HD clutch on a GSXR .
I personally own a Honda cruiser style bike that runs easy 12 sec 1/4 mi.
Plus I have two Turbo Buicks. One of which has nos for a good "spool
& cool" on the turbo & can dip into the 10's on street stickies. AND I haul 3 kids around in it on a regular basto the grocery store, wal mart, etc.
Can't wait to see what I'm racing when I'm an "old man".

Btw I wish I could get ahold of snowmobile parts in FL. I free up in the north & its funny as heck trying to explain a snowmobile to a southerner. No chance, no way of getting sled parts here.
