HI,
I just picked this kart up (free) and I want to put it together for the grand kids.
Motor is shot, but I have a 5hp Honda (not a clone) from a discarded pressure washer that looks like it will work, it is virtually the same size.
Can anyone help me out with a make on this cart. I think it may be almost as old as me, and that is getting up there.
I am sure I will have other questions as I get into the build.
Thanks,. Jim

:welcome2:Jim!............Not much in the way of ID particulars on that kart. Has the steering shaft piercing the floorpan, a squared off steering hoop, twin scrub brakes with a weird handbrake handle attached, side handhold loops, and the spindle to spindle crossover tierod. No historian myself, but others here can give you a name for it based on those characteristics.
Some more pics all the way around the kart and engine would be helpful for ID, but mainly for mechanical questions later.

Sorry for the double pictures, I tried to delete and correct them but the forum did not seem to allow that.

Bird kart? We need better pictures of just the Honda engine. If it is the model I think it is it will not work on a Gokart because the exhaust points right at the driver. That is bad for many reasons.

I looked at that today, and I think you are right. I was hoping to find a real tight 90 degree bend pipe with a flange to mount, then fab a mesh cage over that for protection. I'm not sure it will work though.
That is what I have been researching today.
What parts places have the best selections, along with a staff that does not mind working with a newby?

You lost me on with that response?
betta fin care
Jim, this link appearing in blue at the bottom left corner of the newer motor pic is what I posted about. Don't know how a link to a pet webpage for taking care of bettas' extravagant flowing fins got there, but that's the story.
Ironically one of the most beautiful and at the same time meanest aquarium fish there are. Sometimes labeled Betta Fighting Fish, many folks isolate them from all their other fish to avoid grisly death. They're anywhere from pure black to streaked/mottled orange/red/yellow/ blue. Fins flow and hang like fine silk drapes, beautiful. Prone as any aquarium pets to fin rot, prone to ick, almost too late if diagnosed at all.

Besides the obvious shaft on the far side of that mounted motor on the kart, is that the other end of the shaft I see sticking out on the closer side of the motor? Not sure I've ever seen that.

Thanks for the response. I did not even notice that wording down there, but I have seen it on other pictures I have posted on other forums. Not the same words, but something goofy like that. It must be attached to the pictures after I do the post image thing.

Professor,
I had to go to the garage and look. That shaft is what pull cord would be attached to. , PO took the shroud off, along with all the head bolts etc. I assume it is trashed, that is why I am hoping to use the Honda motor I have.

flyfrog,
I'm not sure at this point if it is even worth shipping anywhere. I have a friend that works on small engines, I was going to have him take a look at it.

Nobody makes an exhaust for that engine nor do they make any hop up parts for that engine. It has a plastic cam gear and cam lobes also if I’m not mistaken. Would you want the liability of someone getting gassed? Worse yet someone’s neck sticking to a hot exhaust?

Your replacement motor won't work.....without a lot of fabricating. The exhaust facing the drivers seat is hard to overcome. I used one once and built my own exhaust for it using some pipe to reverse it's direction. I think it would be easier to get a different motor, but that's my thinking.

.............not fer nuttin', but............A 180 degree homemade exhaust pipe in a tight space due to space considerations can completely negate all of the advantages gained by hours of exhaust porting of a head. Backpressure sucks, just doesn't suck hard enough to suck out all the waste gases.
