Hi I have a small go cart that was just unloaded on me by my stepson's dad. It definitely needs work. One issue it had, was the chain would pop off constantly. It looked to have way too much play in the wheel. Sure enough I get it off and the bearings fall out of it, they were toast. I replaced the 1 3/8 x 5/8 flange bearings, I found them at TSC.
Now I have running and idle issues with the greyhound 6.5hp mod# 66015. Engine looks to be new or nearly new, and will only run with the choke. Also this thing takes off as soon as you start it. I'm not talking like 5mph, I mean it takes off full throttle and does ghost doughnuts. Often the throttle has no effect, and the choke acts like a throttle for some reason. It also idles very high. I was testing it out going down our long driveway and had to actually use the choke as a throttle as throttle itself had no effect. This worked for about 30 seconds, then it just ran wide open and there was no stopping it. Brakes were smoking, I was going insanely fast, in the rain, and was BARELY able to stop it before it killed me lol, by reaching behind me and fishing for the kill knob. This thing is currently a death trap. This is a VERY small cart also. When I squeeze myself in it, and it takes off full throttle with my weight, the entire cart is torqued and you have to try hard to correct this with steering. Tires are 4.10 / 3.50 -4.
Now I have drained and filled this tank with Sunoco 90 non-ethanol, changed spark plug to new NGK BP6ES, topped off engine oil, and cleaned out carb with carb cleaner and compressed air. Both carb and air filter looked new. I also dialed down the idle adjustment screw on carb, and set governor screw all the way in. Still the same! I suspect it's all that odd linkage above the carb? Any ideas? Thanks!
