Hi

I was looking on craigslist and found some good prices on briggs big engines, was wondering though, they are all from lawnmowers, how do you take them from vertical to horizontal? I like things cheap, so the cheaper the better!

Thanks

find you a cent. clutch for a belt to put on your engine. then find a riding mower gearbox. Run your belt to the bottom shaft of the gearbox and a chain from the output of the gearbox to your axel sprocket. Rider gearboxes are not very reliable for joy riding but It'll work for a cheap fix.

The two major problems with turning a vertical to a horizontal is lubrication and mounting. I've heard of people making an oil dipper so oil will get splashed where it needs to when running in a horizontal position but I don't know how well they work compared to a manufacturer designed dipper. As far as mounting I'm sure thinking up some sort of mounting bracket wouldn't be to difficult, you'd also have to modify the intake manifold to rotate your carb 90 degrees.

I have purchased a 90 degree gear box with 1" input and output on ebay for cheap, that will run with my 13hp briggs.

if you have the ability to fabricate things its not a huge task it took me a day to convert my 399cc briggs into a horizontal shaft
