Brother, please dont try to weld without experience. You may get hurt seriously. And for your gokart, you can use a single or inline twin cylinder motor and turbocharge it for perfomace. By doing this, you can get power at a cheaper price. Keep your ground clearance as flat to the ground as possible to maintain stability while drifting. You can use a manual engine. Just make an extra pedal for the clutch, or mount the clutch on the steering wheel along with the gear shifters using old school brake wire. You can make your own power steering from scrap hydraulic parts since you are a mechanical engineer like me. Be safe . Learn to weld from a professional.

All I'd need is an afternoon with some that would want to learn to weld and proper vision, and I could teach em to weld good enough at I'd trust it over a Chinese welded go kart. I've seen a few post telling people not to weld instead of pointing them to something like how to weld info. Check out welding tips and tricks on YouTube or his website. Jodie is pretty awesome and full of good info on how to weld.

I agree to your point bro.....but I l explain a budjet for a proper gokart at using a manual 5 speed in the material I refer to.
Engine : 8000 Rupees(fully reconditioned, turbocharged and tuned,with proper exhaust kit and a good air filter)
Chassis : 10000 Rupees
Wheels and other expenses : 5 000 Rupees
So thats lesser than 350$ in your currency brother.
Go for a inline 2 cyinder than a v twin. A regular motorbike engine comes with a integrated gearbox. Why do we need a seperate one???

You arent going to find that in North America.......and for that price...

What bob is describing is a preditor type clone for about that price.... common in USA.
These are the type of engines( honda/clones) we commonly refer to around here as per gokart projects.

Its still dangerous bro...I pointed you. Learn from a professional. Hope you know the basics and theory of welding. My hands shivered like **** when I first tried to weld....risky to try from a few youtube videos bro...ask someone. You use Tig welding right, that aint soo easy. Everybody wants a manual transmission.

The problem is they don't make transmissions for the types of engines that normally get used for go karts. The RPMs, TQ, HP, is too high for most.

The manual transmissions used are like the Peerless 700 or something like a Polaris trans. They require machining, primary clutches, 2ndary clutches, and $$$$$.

Most people settle for something like a Comet Torque Converter, which works like an auto trans.

It is not that it not recommended, it is just expensive and complicated.

So a bike or atv engine with trans already is the way to go.

In the States MIG welders are relatively cheap to buy. One can easily teach them selves to weld with one in less than a day. I was self taught for the first 15 years I had a mig. Even then I still have not had a weld fail on me to this day. GM finally sent me to school and I was even able to teach the engineer running the class a thing or 2. You just need lots of experience and a good welding supplier willing to talk to you about different welding rod and gasses.
