Ok.... flame away guys :2guns: These are probably answered on here, but I'm at work, and don't have a lot of time for the search button. I have an old Murray go-cart I put an 18hp Honda into :auto: I put the comet 40series clutch on it. Problem is, when I fire it up everything works great til I hit the gas then the driven unit opens up and the belt is way too long at that point. Now I've worked on cars all my life, so I'm a little bit mechanically inclined. Putting a 350 into an Olds Cutlass cruiser as we speak  But this has me stumped. What am I doin wrong here?

It's a brand new unit. Can't remember the distance right now, but called the place that sold me the clutch and they told me what size belt was needed. Like I said, all night and tight til I hit the gas. Shoulda stuck with full sized cars :surrender: LMAO

By my understanding, you just contradicted yourself. First post you said the belt's too loose, post 3 it's tight. I think we're gonna definitely need pics or maybe even video for this one

Sorry, long day, and first shift on nights(swingshift) When sitting at idle the belt is fine. when I hit the gas the driven unit opens up and the belt falls in and just flops around. I can get pics tomorrow.... don't know about video though. Technologicly challenged. I still believe in the 3 C's of Hot Rodding..... Cubes, Cam, Carb :devil2:

The driver looks like it's on backwards. I'm not an expert, but I've never seen one that way. By the way, that's gonna fly!!!!!

Both the drive and driven look flipped to me... red is an inboard spring, yellow is outboard. The belt is also too tight.

Ok.... so pulleys are on backwards and belts too tight  LOL... well, get them flipped and see if I can move the engine forward any. Not a lot of play room, but see what I can do. Thanks.

Please check the chart for clutches and belts and measure to assure correct distance based on the belt number you have purchased.

Gamble, do what Blaz has suggested. He works at a kart shop and knows what he is talking about. Your driver and driven have to be a specific distance from each other for a specific belt

I had a look for you, and your distance according to the belt you have is 5 3/16"

I got this from here
