Hey all, well here i am brand new to karts but not to racing. I retired from speedway motorcycle racing 2 yrs ago... moved to oregon have some land and decided to build a dirt oval.... i have a couple friends with briggs 5 horse karts.... well i found a cheapo on craigslist. Paid 50 bucks... it appears to be an older rental kart... but i really dont know as this is my first shot at karting.. pretty much a bare frame now... i have ordered some steering components gears etc... it has a jiangdong fj168 5.5 motor... bone stock i believe. I cracked the case today and removed the govener...everything appears to be in great shape. I ordered a larger carb and am really lost at what i need or can do to give this some more power.... any help is greatly appreciated thanks a ton! I have never heard of this motor before. Is it a clone? What type of tires/wheels the dirt is a clay base and is good and sticky... like i said im as new as it gets but fiercely competitive and want to have fun

Welcome to the forum. Can't get rid of that competitive streak huh...

We like pics around here so, post as many as you can... it makes it easier to answer questions.

Your engine sounds like it may be a clone, with pics we can comfirm it. There are bucket loads of mods you can do from simple hi flow air filter & exhaust right up to performance cams, billet rods & billet flywheels... the list is almost endless...

hey fabroman...thanks for the input! and yep somthing in the blood that makes me wanna turn left either on 2 wheels or 4 lol!!! i will get some pics and post. this looks like a great site and helpful too!

Yeah, it's one of the better ones; we're a pretty laid back, easy going bunch, that's what makes it interesting
