uh sorta...haha, planning a nice little street go kart for messing around with during summer meaning i have a 6 month timeline and a $300 to $400 budget, still stuck on a few things though :/ #1 which engine should i use? weed eater seems to small, lawnmower has a vertical shaft so would a chainsaw be big enough? #2 gear ratio for a balanced acceleration and top speed, any help or other threads i should look at would be greatly appreciated! thanks -seth

Sounds like a good plan. Start looking at craigslist, ebay, kijiji & other local classifieds for a cheap kart or rolling chassis. You should be able to find something half decent for that money & have change for any repairs that may be needed

From there you can see how things work & learn what different parts do & how they interact with other parts.

Your southern neighbours have the HF Predator but, I've heard Doc mention a similar item from Princess Auto, I'll let him fill in the details...

#2 gear ratio for a balanced acceleration and top speed

There are more variables involved in gearing than just what clutch & what axle sprocket to buy; the size & weight of the kart & driver need to be considered as well as engine HP & tyre diameter...

A good starting point is around 6:1

any help or other threads i should look at would be greatly appreciated! thanks -seth

All of them :lolgoku:

If you are planning to build a kart (which, for your first kart, I don't suggest) any of the sticky threads will provide good, releavant info

Welcome to the forum seth!! The others have covered most of the points mentioned. I would not go with a chainsaw engine, as it will be too much hassle to set up. Princess Auto should have a nice engine for you. Doc Sprocket could also maybe point you in a better direction
