Newbie have question about kart motor and clitch

Just pulled a kart out of weeds at a friends and I'm trying to get it running for my kids, cheapest way possible. What would I need to do if I used a snowblower motor? There is a motor on it but it's missing a lot of parts, any help would be great

Are you in the US or Canada? you could stop buy Harbor Freight or Princess Auto and pick p a 6.5hp engine for 100 bucks. That might be easier than trying to make one work from craigslist.

I know you are trying to do it cheap, and this is actually pretty cheap for a good, new engine.

One of the motors I'm looking at is a 5hp Briggs, do I need a clutch and if so what kind should I look for? Planning on using Craigslist and eBay for used parts. How fast will

Top speed is a function of many factors. We cannot answer your question as such, without a lot of detailed info on your kart. 35-40MPH is probably a safe estimate without any further info. Yes, you'll need a clutch. Whereabouts are you?

No there isn't a clutch on the kart now, it's missing clutch, recoil, air box and part of carb lol

Get a centrifugal clutch that fits on your engine's shaft. Make sure to measure!!

I would also recommend a centrifugal clutch. You will just have to check what the pitch is of the axle sprocket, and then buy the correct clutch with the same pitch. Count the teeth on the axle sprocket and post it here.

We can then help you as to what clutch to buy, cos they come with different tooth counts. If you get the wrong one, you could land up with incorrect gearing and burn your clutch up

How do I know the pitch? The sprocket on the axlish has 30 teeth

The pitch is the measure from the tip of the tooth to the tip of the next tooth.

3/8" = #35
1/2" = #40/41

i think your axle sprocket is too small to do anything with a CC, you need a bigger sprocket.

If it comes down to buying one or the other, I'd go for the predator. When you buy used, you're usually buying someone elses problem. Even the slightest fault is gonna take time to fix.

Unless you can get a perfect briggs local for less than about $80, it's not really worth it, is it?

Any 3/4" shaft centrifugal clutch with the correct chain pitch. The same clutch should fit both engines.

You can use a bicycle brake cable as a throttle cable.
