I bought a pair of karts last weekend, found out yesterday carter brothers is out of business, no fire, no parts ,Someone help a fella out

Replaced fuel filter and gas line because filter wss brittle from sun damage, both carts are very complete ,no patching or repairing is visible, filled gas line and filter charged battery it cranked well but no "cough" like it was trying to start,has auto choke"i think" ,,pulled plug 1 cart had dark staining with no build up, the other carts plug was identical on one half of the plug one side white,one side black

That kart should have the GY6, 150cc engine. This outfit seems to have a good bit of Carter parts available, many are standard "buggy" parts though. First place to start is the stop or kill switches. Make sure they are switched to ON or RUN. If you can bypass them, that would eliminate any issues with them. Take out the spark plug, connect the coil wire to it and lay it near metal so it will be grounded. Crank the engine and look for spark at the plug. If you have spark, put it back in the engine then pull the air filter box off, shoot a blast of starting fluid in the carb and see if it will fire. There should be a fuel petcock under the gas tank. You can test it by pulling the fuel hose off the petcock and cranking the engine. Vacuum should open the valve and let gas run out of the valve. I use my vacuum pump to test them. If you have spark, fuel and decent compression it should start. The auto choke shouldn't keep it from running, it's function is to allow extra fuel into the carb on cold starts then slowly extend a pintle or brass needle down into the enrichment port blocking the excess fuel and bringing the engine speed down.

The spark plug isn't a standard plug, I think you'll need a 12 or 13mm deep well socket to remove it. Smaller than a lawn mower plug. Just a heads-up.

One more thing. When you get it running, change the oil and adjust the valves. Remove the valve cover, bring the crankshaft up to TDC or Top Dead Center, loosen the rocker arm nuts then go with the .003 feeler gauge blade. A slight bit of drag is ideal between the pushrod and rocker arm. Tighten the lock nuts, reinstall the valve cover. It's all explained in the manual I sent.
