Hey guys, New to the site Been lurking around reading for a while now. Decided to join.

I am trying to help my Girlfriends little brothers in taking apart an old gokart they found on the side of the road, and rebuilding it...
I need to know what type of axle this is and how to take it apart?

Welcome to the forum. That looks like a live axle to me. The hub will probably be held on with a key and keyway. I think that is what I am seeing in pic 2. It is either that or someone has put a tack weld on the hub and threads to keep it on. You will probably have to use a lot of penetrating oil and let it sit for a day or so to loosen before you can get the hub off

I'm not sure where you are located, here in Australia there is an aerosol product called Freeze & Release, sold under the Loctite brand.

I had to do the same job you're looking at. My axle is 1" with a keyway, however to make things more difficult it also has tapered ends.

I did mine with the wheel on and sitting on the ground, and the nut on, but not tight.

Anyway, I heated the hub sleeve evenly with an electric heat gun then once the hub was too hot to touch, sprayed the axle with Freeze spray, then gave the end of the axle a sharp blow with a hammer and block of wood. This freed the joint.

DON'T HIT THE AXLE END DIRECTLY WITH A STEEL HAMMER.

Try Landuse's method first because it's easier. Your's may come off easy, mine had been sitting out in the weather for a long time.
