Hi all. Looking to purchase a Yerf dog 30033. It has a cvt currently, and I was wondering- As my plans are to strap a 11hp clone on it (due to closeout prices at HF being uber cheap), do you see any problems with taking off the generic 30-series pulleys (As completely replacing it with a 40 series is way to much cash) and just running a clutch set up? First kart, so I might be missing something super obvious here.

Edit: As a side note...how fast can you get the two seaters going with the 6hp Tecumseh's?

the engine on it now is what, a tecumseh 5.5? or something in that range? one of those hooked up to a TC (torque converter) may actually work much better than a 11hp and a centrifugal clutch.

im not sure if you know how cent. clutches and torque converters work, but basically in a regular cent. clutch there is centrifugal force on the clutch shoes that defeat the spring to hold them back, and the shoes begin to drag on the drum and moves the sprocket.

on a torque converter, the pulleys change sizes, smaller in the front and larger in the back, to get the most torque possible for take off, then once you start moving and less stress is put on the engine, it keeps increasing the ratio and this adds your top speed.


ever thought of selling the old engine and 30 series to fund the purchase of a 40 series?

How big are the rear tires and where will you be riding it? If you will use it on flat land and it has smaller tires, you could easily sell that TC for $150+.

I plan on taking it out to OHV Trails. No clue how well it will hold up though...

If you're going to be hitting the trails, you really are better off with a CVT. A CVT is a pretty hard shot in the wallet, no question there. But you could ease the pain by selling your existing CVT and your engine, too.
