hi everyone, about 3 weeks ago I picked up a broken razor ground force go kart that someone was throwing out, and after replacing the on/off toggle switch I had a working electric mini kart for my daughter for $3... But I just had to be able to ride it so I started looking for a motor, and our local mower repair shop had a 2hp briggs off a edger, laying around and not knowing whether it ran they gave it to me for free. So the only things i had to buy were an ATV throttle, cable, metal for motor mount, clutch, chain, and sprocket I had a mini kart that both me and my little girl could cruise around on (with limited throttle for her) it goes about 30mph due to the limited size of the axle sprocket and the fact that this tiny thing going 30 is pretty scary even for me lol.

the day i found it (Pic 1)

the freebee 2hp (Pic 2)

the engine mounted (Pics 3-5)

I just picked up the blue one for $60 so we could each have one and I can make the gas one just for the grownups to go too fast lol (Pic 6)

heres a vid before i had the idle set and carb tuned in

Welcome to the forum

I was expecting that your gearing would be way off but, with those tiny wheels, I guess it works ok. Speaking of wheel, I notice the rear wheels on the blue kart are bigger; any plans to swap 'em?

The gearing is pretty high but without a jackshaft it was the biggest axle sprocket I could run due to the small wheels, but I'm picking up some 7" pneumatic wheels today, so I will be able to run a bigger sprocket and have a better gear ratio and a much more comfortable ride. So I should have more power on the low end rather than wasting it on top end that no one wants to push it to lol. And the wheels on the blue one are hard plastic "drift" wheels that are even worse but for my little one they work just fine.

Nice, and welcome to the machine / insanity / forum!
:welcome2:

Keep in mind, bigger tires + bigger sprocket = same overall gearing.

2 other stray thoughts;

I've never seen a kart that you strapped to your butt before, it looks like fun! :cheers2:

That's the cutest little Briggs gas-tank I've ever seen, I didn't know they came that small...half-quart?

:welcome2: to the forum. You are going to love it here. There is more information to be gotten than you will ever remember.

I love hove small that kart looks underneath you. Going 30 on something that small must be hair raising

I have one of those small ones on my Briggs 5HP. They are small. I have no idea why they would make a tank so tiny

Only reason is so that you can take lots of breaks while edging, roto-tilling, etc...

Or maybe it's a built-in timer, each kid gets to drive the go-kart until it runs out of gas, then it's the next one's turn?
