Anyway, I have a little boy who is 3 and he's been bugging me to build a go kart. I never had one as a kid, although I wanted one, so I figured why not.
My grandfather bought a racing kart when I was a kid, but it had been pretty badly wrecked. The engine was good, but the rest was pretty much trash. He kept the engine and junked the rest, recently he gave me the engine so I figured it was time to get on with the project.
I'm trying to do this cheap, since my little guy is only 3 and eventually we'll move up to a real kart that he can race if he really wants to.
I picked up an old Manco 2-seater chassis with steering and rear axle for $20. Needs a little bit of welding work and wheels/tires, but I can do all that so I'm not too worried. Plans are to rebuild the 7hp Kohler that came out of the wrecked cart, put some good wheels and tires on it, build a seat, clean it up and paint it, and take my little guy out cruising.
So if anyone has any cheap wheels and tires and want to make a 3-year old boy's day, let me know!
