First, thanks for letting me join. I’m a gear head I guess. Boat mechanic, and fabricator for a living. I have built and raced too many things to list.
started watching go kart builds on YouTube, and it has been all down hill since then. I bought a crossfire 150R new when they were going out of business. It was great when my twin boys were young. It had the normal clunking from the gear box. I contacted them, and they sent me some parts. Don’t remember what it was, but fixed the problem. Took the gear box apart and added something. So, my twin boys are 23, and I’m 58, and wanted to make this kart a man toy. that is how I found this site.
thanks,
Roy

Hey welcome. Kinda in the same boat as you. Mine are still young but theyre pulling towards the 4 wheelers and minibikes so Im currently looking for a new engine for my "Talon 150". Interested to see what you come up with.

I see a lot of wrecked snow mobiles.

Oh I already did it.lol. I’m just having some CVT issues. I went with the 670 predator engine. I stretched the swing arm, and reinforced the frame. Added 3/16 plate to the top To hold the 670. A 780 CVT set up That isn’t worth a darn. it can’t hold the power of the 670. you have to run a ton of gearing which kills the top end. Otherwise you will smoke the belt taking off. new belt will last about 5 hours. I’m trying a double clogged belt, and changing the rollers in the driver per comets advice.

6:1 gear ratio seems to be the Goldie Locks gear ratio! WELCOME here youngster!!!
Thanks. Yeah seems like it. I started at 5.1. 5.1 is awesome. Great hole shot. Donuts, etc. 6.1 I think it might pull the front wheels on pavement, and only going to run high 40’s to 50.
