Hey all,

Just picked a Yerf Dog 3203 on an awesome trade deal (for me anyway).

Going in I knew it had some issues...

Couple pics:

BMI has a new swingarm 89$ -ordered- :)

So.....on to the laundry list...

a new axle at BMI is on sale for 15$ why wouldn't I order one ?

This thing probably hasn't been maintained...

So I should also order new bearings and retainers ?

Is there a kit w/ bearings, retainers and c clips ?

Not sure how I feel about the drum brake. I had to beat the old one off the axle....is there an inexpensive disc brake kit that would work ?

rear sprocket is roached (60t) ordering a new one.

Front tires are mismatched. one is a smoothie and the other is a turf tire. I have a TSC directly behind where I work - can I get a new wheel and tire there ?

That's it for the moment.

I'll wait for opinions and finalize my BMI order later tonight <LOL>

Dan

Man ,Id replace all the nic-nacs while you have it all apart, if you have the coin. Dont be fooled by the band brakes... they work extremely well. But if you want disc, you can buy a manual disc brake kit from BMI or fab up some used re-sourced atv hydraulic brakes.... either way youre gonna have to fab a mount. Might as well go hydraulic. ....
BMI has the tires you want too... Where do you live? Makes it easier to give help on parts knowing your location. If you where around here, Id tell you go to Discount Go karts of Texas off of 45 south.... I dont know what TSC is but if its a auto tire place, they MIGHT be able to hook you up. Wal-Mart sells kart and lawn tractor tires, limited supply and size though, in store, maybe more online with free shipping usually.
Hey,I dig that rail and buggy in the back ground..... You work in a buggy shop, in the upper northeastern side of US ? Ohhh, maybe 'round Lake Havasu (?) Nevada?

<LOL> Good eye on the buggies.

Unfortunately I live in Michigan.

TSC is Tractor Supply Corp. Big chain around here. I have a TSC directly scross from a Walmart - so maybe I'll check both.

The purple one is a 2 seater - 1641 motor.

The blue one is a project. 4 Seat street legal. Building a 2300 type 4 motor with an upright fan shroud.

Under the cover is a 65 VW Notchback with Porsche 944t brakes, 16" boxter rims and a 2300 Type 4 motor... :devil2:

Where bout's in Michigan? I'm east of Grand Rapids, in the Lowell area. And if you're into sand machines, you probably like to play at Silver Lakes....

Down near Lansing.

Right now we're actually on the hunt for a cabin over in the SL area.

Ive seen this shop.... did y'all have a ride featured in Hot VW ?
I got a sand rail 2 seat, project and a rare f'glass buggy , not a Manx ,but a 30-30 . There are only 2 left to be known in existence. Mine and one in Colorado. Contacted owner of company that made them. Was told molds were destroyed and only a few were made. He THOUGHT they were all "dead" as he had never seen any after the mid 70's .... My buggy is the ID pic on Samba.com . The guy was a gun guy.... He named his models after firearms.... There was a 45-45, 30-30, just to name a couple. I wanna say he had a 22-22 also....
LOVE VW's...... got my first one 26 years ago when I was 13. My grandpa restored a 66 for me..... I was the coolest kid in jr.high and some of the high schoolers were jealous too.... Wish I still had that one.....

I didnt read everyones reply, but this worked out pretty well for me for the brakes. I have since gotten rid of this kart, but the brake setup worked really well.

I think this was my first or second post on this message board too. Its a little long, but the pictures show how I did the conversion from brake band to disc brake. Some would say that you should do hydraulic brake, but this worked out ok (I later put a return spring on the brake to keep it from locking up).

I made sure the brakes were close enough to the wheel so they kind of tucked into the wheel well. They worked really great!

I did see that write when I was searching.

Nice job.

I went ahead and ordered a new drum and band from BMI. I'll see how it works out for now - before I get into any heavy fabrication.

Thanks !
