First off I have been lurking on the site for some time now learning a bunch of stuff. This is a great site.

Ok I just got a smaller 2 setter kart for my daughters. It came with an old non working Briggs 5 hp that I am taking off in hopes to place another motor in its place. The motor I am looking at is the Harbor Freight 6.5Hp motor I believe have been referenced in some of these articles before. The issue I am looking at is this motor is not properly set up for the throttle cable to be attached. Does anyone have any pictures of this being done I could work off of. I have attached the link for the engine below for reference.

I will get some pictures posted this week of my project. and thanks in advance :)

I haven't looked at your throttle to be honest. but since no ones stepping up I'll through out what I did. I took apart my lawn mower engine governor/throttle tab, and took out the friction plates and put a return spring on.. if this didn't make sense, take pictures of what you have and I'll see what I can come up with.

On mine, (its not exactly a horbor freight but its basically the same engine) on the throttle theres the part in between the muffler and air filter theres a little swivel thingy with a hole in the side and a screw on the top. Its hex shaped. Thats for connecting a bicycle type cable and theres another piece thats like a C shaped piece with a screw through the middle to hold the sheath. These two pieces are somewhat hidden under the plastic part of the air filter box. It makes it wayy easier if you just cut all the excess plastic off (leave the intake hole to the carb obviously)

Thanks for all the responses. I will be picking up the engine this weekend and have a game plan. I will get some pictures of the project up and going this week. Thanks again.

Sorry so late. The HF engine is actually really easy to hook up. The cable can come in from the back of the motor or from the right side. It has provisions to clamp the cable in place in the throttle plate, and holes drilled in the lever for the cable itself. You have to loosen the lever hold-down bolt a bit (in the instructions) and I cut the handle off the lever because sometimes it interferes with the cable.

Yeah... just take in mind, if you don't know what valve floating, coil bind, or throwing a rod is, don't upgrade. Those upgrades will do squat... [when you still have your governor on].
