New tools

so today i was cleaning out my garage, there are a few couches and stuff in there so i dont have much space but i do have some, well i threw all my tools that need organizing into a tote bucket to sort tommarow, but im still using my grandparents/uncles tools. so today my grandma called me in and asked me if i wanted my own tools and of course i said yes, so she gave me 50 dollars and told me to go get this set http://www.harborfreight.com/105-piece-tool-kit-4030.html and i must say i love it so far, anyone getting new tools over mid winter break ? Also, whats the first thing you guys do after getting new tools?

sounds your grandma is a sweetheart!! looks like a good set. speaking of harbor freight, i received my notcher in the mail from them today.

oh, and the first thing i do when getting a new tool is take out of the package and drool on it for about 5min's. then use it. somewhat of a 'marking the territory' for those that come over and want to borrow the new tool. lol just kidding... or am i?

No, you're not kidding. Something that I do is hold them and caress them- and marvel at how clean they are, knowing full well that I'll never see that again! Oh yeah- I perform a full inspection, so that if I need to make a warranty exchange, I know right away.

Y'all have mid-winter break?

ive been on mid winter break since last Saturday,

ive fully inspected them and they look pretty good, i think im going to leave them in this case so i dont have to share a toolbox with anyone, i love the fact that they all have a spot in the box specifically for them. this is great, and shes a great lady, i love her

Thats cool. A friend of mine gave me a ratchet set recently... he says "theyre 1/4, so you shouldnt break em" ... lol. Cool guy.

Just dont wrench on em too hard...

I love harbor freight, if you get the right stuff there it is an amazing deal.

EVEN BETTER - My dad works there as shipping management or something and we get 20% off

I've broken lots of sockets and ratchets, all high quality brands.

Haven't broken any harbor freight ratchets yet, but I only use them for light duty work. I have however broken plenty of harbor freight sockets, I only buy the impact rated stuff from them now.

i had a china ratchet, it broke the first time i used it. so i welded it up and used it as a breaker bar. then i BENT IT and sheared off the connector part.

i break chinese sockets all the time, i have at least a dozen of them broke. too much torque just makes them shatter.


never came close to breaking any of my american sockets

i need to dump some cash into a good metric set.

we've got a span on truck that comes to our work every tuesday
its too easy to buy lots from him

i manage to break stuff too offen
i use mostly 1/2 in and 3/4

mainly extetions (twist them too far)
and breaker bars
broke my snap on bar the other day just sheared it of at the square drive
love the replacment warrenty on them though

intrestling point i break more snap on then kincrome (cheap brand)
and because they are cheap they are the ones i put 4 ft bars on and hit the spanners with a hammer

may seem like i teat my stuff bad but as a deisel mechanic
working on bigger stuff somtimes u dont get a choice

havent had a socket explode yet
try to use the impact ones

did see someone use a 1 1/8 socket on an inch drive gun and it cracked 1/2 way round the base and up one side
luck it just spread the sidewall and spun rather than explode

This is where it pays to buy quality tools. Like Fowler said, stuff's still going to break. So- I march my @ss back to wherever I bought it (usually Canadian Tire), and get my replacement. My very first socket set was made in Sri Lanka. The very first day, I broke three tearing down a motorcycle. Lesson learned!

Now, Kendel- looking at the link you provided, it says they have a lifetime warranty. So- even if you break 'em like eggs, you're covered. Good deal!

ya snapon is qulity and a lifetime warrenty regardess of the reason

one of the apprentics got a !/2 rachet from his dad that would've been 30 yrs old and lived on a mine site

he took it to the guy and he rebiult it no questions
