Hey guys. My name is skylar and i live in Texas. I'm thinking about getting a go kart soon and i want to make it a shifter kart. i was going to get a small engine. a little speed but nothing too fast. (theres no where to ****ing ride it here) but here is where the problem lays. I want a manual transmission. Full standard. None of that mike gearbox stuff where its just up and down. I havent been able to get any results on google with the countless days of researching. is there a way i could get a gearbox with a shift lever and add it to my kart? its mainly for drifting. since im new to this, any information and help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Welcome to the forum!!

First off, this is a family friendly forum, so please no swearing!

Secondly, I have never seen a full manual transmission for a kart. I do not think you get one. You would probably have to use a car engine for that type of thing

How about the transmission you get on ride-on lawnmowers?

sorry for the swearing. and lawnmower engines i dont think will work. its completely different than a karting engine. plus im looking for a multi speed tranny. kinda sucks. i guess ill just get a torque converter if no one else has anything.

Get on craigslist and see if you can find some sort of motorcycle or complete motorcycle that has a multi gear transmission that's made to the engine. That way you can attach the clutch cable to a foot operated lever and have a lever to shift the gears that's attached to the trans shift lever where your left foot would go when riding a motorcycle. Have the gas pedal on the right....it would then drive almost exactly like a car. I've built a few of them.

Just my $0.02!

thank you guys for the replies. ive thought about some dirt bike engines. i just dont like the only way for me to shift is up and down but i guess ill just manage with that. any way i could get a mount for it? im not a welder, i have no experience with it nor do i have a machine to do it and i know a standard go kart mount wouldnt work.

major mods like this would be pretty difficult without welding. do you have someone you can borrow welder from? learning to weld ''ok'' is pretty easy. its welding good that takes practice. a few hours of practice can get you laying beads well enough to do a project like this.
